Precise, simple and yet strong, powerful images. That’s certainly how we would simply describe the work of Thomas Lohr. The photographer was born in Germany, and now divides his time between Berlin, London and New York, where he has lately worked with Fantastic Man, Interview Germany, i-D, GQ Style, Topman and Hussein Chalayan. Hello, Thomas!
TCD: What made you want to become a photographer?
TL: I love creating, and I discovered that photography was the medium that came naturally to me.
TCD: If you could make a list of your favourite contemporary photographers, who would you pick?
TL: Roni Horn, Juergen Teller, Gillian Wearing, Nadav Kander, Viviane Sassen…
TCD: If you were to tag yourself on TCD, what 3 words would you use?
TL: You tell me.
TCD: So what exciting projects are you working on right now?
TL: A trip to NYC.
TCD: What would be your dream commission?
TL: I love taking pictures of inspiring people in their homes. Dream commissions would be for example to photograph Nelson Mandela, Aung San Suu Kyi, Fidel Castro, Oscar Niemeyer, Ai Weiwei or Mariana Abramovic, to name a few.
TCD: Go on, tell us a secret?
TL: If I told it to you, it wouldn’t be a secret anymore!
