How eager are you for the summer holidays to arrive at last? Two sunny weekends have just passed us by and, after months of treading through London’s cold and rain, we’ll admit that these last days have put us in quite a mood for a relaxing, hazy holiday. Whether it is by bathing in warm waters or by lounging around the poolside, we are longing for a summer vacation more than ever before and cannot wait for the sunnier months ahead.
Inspired by our new mindset, we have selected some photographs featured on TCD that convey a peaceful and summery feel through their use of soft, natural light. As the highlights of any holiday are sun, sand and rest, we could not possibly omit the gorgeous work of Steen Sundland, Babette Pauthier and Paul Smith. Of course, holidays can be just as enjoyable when spent at home, which Roger Neve and Venetia Scott so brilliantly convey through their own photographs. Lastly, since no summer vacation can ever be complete without a burst of refreshments, we simply had to include Zoë Zimmer’s atmospheric poolside photograph and William Abranowicz’s black and white portrait shot – and let us not forget the importance of a cooling drink, for which Laura Sciacovelli’s luxurious close-up shot is making us incredibly thirsty.
